Interrupted Life

I have really enjoyed a Bible Study I am going through called Jonah, A Life Interrupted by Priscilla Shirer. I never thought there could be so many lessons learned from the four chapters in Jonah.
In the study she was going through the last chapter where Jonah was angry because God had him speak five words to the Nineveh and the greatest revival in history took place. Jonah didn't want this revival.
Jonah was mad because God didn't do what Jonah thought He should do. Jonah thought if he held up his end of the deal, God would react like Jonah had scripted in his own mind. "Okay, I yielded--here is what should happen."
How often do we haggle with God? We want to put Him on a schedule and want His approval on what we have planned instead of seeking His will and plans.
Jonah and Elijah both talked of God just  taking their lives while they were in the midst of their trials. How often do we just wish for Heaven when we are in the middle of our trials?
Jonah wanted a relationship with God but only on his terms and conditions.

"The Lord said, 'Do you have good reason to be angry?'" Jonah 4:4

We need to remember if God never does another good thing for us, He did enough at Calvary.

  1. I'm glad that your enjoying your Bible Study.I pray that the Lord is in the middle of my schedule everyday. Prayer works so perfect for me.

  2. It's so very true that, more often than we would like to admit, we act like Jonah - either overtly or covertly wanting to have things done our way. Lord, help us to be humble before You!

  3. Too many of us want our relationship with God to be on our own terms. The story of Jonah is a good example. Thank you for sharing.
